The ComicRack Manual 2nd edition is now officially released!
![]() It was just a month and a half when the first version was released. I don't know why I chose to number it like a software (0.9.1 ?). Maybe I intended to release version after version with quick updates and increasing "build" number. But, I have now realised that once a proper version (like this one ?) is released, it should be maybe a couple of months and a good long changelog that a new version is released. So, its better to release it like a book.. hence the 2nd "Edition". ![]() In this edition, I have put in all the effort that I could have (and should have in the first edition itself). So, lets see if you people like it ! ![]() NEW Features
CHANGES / FIXES
How can you help the ComicRack Manual Project: Please download the manual and give it a read. Please point out any errors and I'll try my best to rectify them in the next update. If you dislike anything in the manual (or the whole of it), please feel free to give constructive criticism. In case you like it, do give me some good karma I would also request all the active users to redirect new users' queries in the help section to the manual. (if, obviously, the manual already has what they want to know cYo wrote: Nice work with the manual. It shows that it is the first version (but look who's talking: It's Mr. No-Manual-In-4-Years) If it consolidates (let's say with the next release) it would be cool to put it more prominently on the site and also include it in the application. 600, you simply do not stop to amaze me So boss, has it consolidated enough ? ![]() Original, HQ, recommended version Format: pdf No of pages: 124 Size: 30.23 MB http://www.mediafire.com/?mdl2iozuqjzDropbox link: http://db.tt/Zw8EOA |

Low quality (small file-size) version
With this release, the file size of the manual has also doubled. For this reason, the manual is being released in two formats: original/HQ version (recommended), and a small sized(low-quality) version. ![]() Format: pdf No of pages: 124 Size: 9.20 MB http://www.mediafire.com/?4z2nwdhy5dtDropbox link: http://db.tt/NUH4App.s. I have a really bad low quality version also. Size is only 4 Mb, but pictures are too hazy. Tell me if anyone needs that. |

WOW!
600, you have a real talent for this. I've worked at a number of software companies where paid, professional technical writers don't put together a manual as complete and beautiful as yours. And my mind boggles at how much work this must have been! I'm very impressed (and also flattered to see that you've mentioned me and my humble little script in the manual! Thanks. This is a fine step forward for the ComicRack community. Keep up the great work! |

You have outdone yourself, 600WPMPO! Just glancing through it and it looks amazing! It looks like a professional how-to book you would buy at a store! I'll do a thorough read through in the next day or so and see if I have any suggestions or corrections. Hopefully no corrections! +1 very much well deserved karma! |

@cbanack & stonepaw: Thanks guys, you give me more praise than I deserve!
I have found some minor errors in the manual. Some page layouts need to be corrected, a few typos. I have already started correcting them. Just waiting for Stoney's report.. will then combine all corrections in a minor bugfix update within the next few days. What do we call this? 2nd printing / revised edition? Anyway, as soon as the revision is ready, I'll update the links in the first post, and announce the revision in this thread itself. |

This manual is mind-boggling
In my day job we are a week away from a big point release and the manual is just crap. I showed yours in the developer group around and everybody said: give the documentation group your number A few points: Great design and style. One layout thread runs through the whole manual and it is totally fitting for e Comic Application. I like your visual way of explaining. This has professional grade. Browsing through the manual you see how BIG ComicRack is (and how crazy I am I've to think of a way to integrate and present this thing prominently. Lots of people do not visit the forum. This week is still crunch time in the day job, so I will get to this in the next week. Again, great and amazing work. |

You could integrate it to the installer of the future versions and add a shortcut in the CR start menu folder. Quick and painless. |

Again, great and amazing work. Thanks cYo.. those are really kind words of praise One week is just fine, as by then I'll have updated the manual to make some minor corrections here & there.. In my opinion, for promoting it prominently, we should do all of these: 1. Host the manual on ComicRack's server, with a link somewhere in "documentation" 2. Add the manual to the ComicRack Help menu. The documentation link currently in the help menu (in the main menu of ComicRack) should become a menu, linking to both the wiki & the manual 3. Include the manual with the ComicRack setup. If size is a problem, include the LQ version. We can provide 2 types of download: one setup only, & the other with the manual also |
