I have created a wiki entry on installing ComicRack on linux via wine here. It it more up to date than this page.
ComicRack on linux through wine. But its a bit tricky, here's how I did it: Update 12.5 alright So I discovered that I couldn't get it to launch on 1.1.9 if I hadn't already isntalled it, I think that it is running into problems creating the various config files. and I just took the plunge and updated to 1.1.10, and now it wont run at all. So, if you want ComicRack, for now the best I can say is to use 1.1.8 in a virtual desktop NT4.0 mode. If I knew all the .dll dependencies of ComicRack I might get further... nudge, nudge Update: 11/25 from wine 1.1.8 to 1.1.9 I found I needed to change some things. I have wine version 1.1.9 running on ubuntu 8.10 (64 bit), I used winetricks to install .net 2.0 on my wine. (Link:Clicky). after that just install comic rack. make sure that you have mapped all of your drives for wine, do this by going to the drives tab of configure wine and hitting autodetect. you're done press ok. after that launch ComicRack. you will get an error message, uncheck (I do anyway) the report and click "try to resume". Comic rack has now launched. there are a few minor graphical issues, like needing to bring the library bar up very high to be able to browse your library, and the screen flashing some black and white boxes at you when you drag things, but they go away when you stop. when you go to add comics to your make sure to browse through the wine path via my computer, I had some issues when I tried to browse through the root directory. The last trick is to always close with file>exit, when I just clicked the "X" button anything I had added to my library that session would be lost, as well as bookmarks through any comics I had read. Anyway, that's it. I thought I would also list the features I know to work/not work (someday I'll try to get this all in the wiki) Works: reading comics adding to library most buttons on the gui (haven't tested them all yet) adding lists and smart lists Doesnt work: right clicking on library items - causes ComicRack to crash everytime tabs - opening new tabs causes ComicRack to crash everytime I'm going to try to get around to getting this into the wiki, but no promises. |

Very right... now i also run ComicRack on Ubuntu 8.10 Linux via Wine...!!
I used a virtual desktop of exactly the same resolution as my Ubuntu desktop.. 1280 x 1024, so that i can read comics fullscreen The main problem I faced was crashing of ComicRack after closing latest news dialog on startup. Somehow after constant re-tries, i managed to turn this dialog off for good. And, yes.. use file>exit to save the settings. Still, the library interface looks kinda sloppy. Still trying for a solution to that.. Best thing is that i can read comics in fullscreen just like i did in vista..!! |

Thanks quidam. I had the same problem, and like 600WPMPO had to just load and reload until I could get it to save exit.
as for an official version, the grand master of the comicrack universe has one that runs via mono, but we have yet to see anything more than a youtube video... Hopefully this will help to build enough linux userbase to justify having a real linux version. |

Nice work you've done. I never even tried to get it running in wine.
You could add such stuff to the WIKI btw Current mono version is currently pdf only. I will try to get some work done in the Christmas holidays... |

that error popped up occasionally for me at first, then I was getting it every time after I upgraded to wine 1.1.9. re-installing ComicRack (after un-installing) solved the problem for me.
