I know it's not even available yet, but any thoughts on running ComicRack on this thing someday? I think it's be the most ideal platform for reading comics so far. I'm very curious to see it in person!

It's a closed system. Appstore only, Phone OS.
It looks nice. I wish windows people could make a nice looking Tablet PC.

Apple is like a totalitarian state. Streets are clean but you can only do what big brother allows you
You can say about Microsoft what you want, but they would never get the idea to prohibit software to run on windows (see flash on iPhone, iPad).

So then you'd have to create ComicRack as an App? Which I'd totally pay for, again

There is already an "app" for that! lol
Seriously though, it's no ComicRack of course, but there is already a comic book reading app for the iPhone/iTouch called "Comiczeal". You unfortunately have to pay for it, but it is kind of a nice app. Also, based on reports today, the iPad is backward compatible for apps that work on the latest OS version apps on both the iPhone and iTouch platforms called double display or something like, which if I interpreted it right, upscale the app's view to the new resolution/pixel size of the iPad.

What I'd want was an iPad app that allowed you to run .cbr files. If is possible would be the deciding factor for buying it, for me. lol

I have to agree with Cyo. If it were slightly bigger I'd almost be tempted, but my experience with Apple products is that it probably works absolutely wonderful, as long as you're doing exactly what Apple anticipated you'd want to do. I don't like closed formats.

What is cool though is looking forward to what competitors come up with.

I also agree with cYo. I've never been a fan of Apple, as it seems to me that you pay an exorbitant price and in return you are limited to what Apple wants you to do with it.

Beyond that, it's only big enough for a single page to display adequately. If it's only going to be one screen, then for decent comic reading it needs to be no less than 16½" diagonal and widescreen for a comic to look right.

I will, for now, continue to hold out for either the Asus or MSI dual screen readers to come to market. If I feel that it's not happening fast enough, then I'll just buy a slim notebook with a large enough screen.
... The failure to appreciate... is perfectly understandable, because the readership never evaluates old material in the context of the cultural climate in which it was created, or the state of the art at the time it was created.

Yeah, the HP Slate is coming out in a few months too, and it will basically be the same thing but running Windows 7... so we will be able to run a full version of ComicRack with that and possibly access our comic library from our desktop, as a media server, using Orb or something. It's gonna be sweet and you won't have any of the shitty limitations that Apple imposes on its apps.

I agree with the comments on Apple's restricting policy. I hate it. But then again, you have to love how their hard behaves! iPad seems like a perfect reading device for me, regardless of all the problems involved.

So, cYo, how about an "export to EPUB format" option...?

iPad is definitely not my cup of tea... i.imgur.com/5vREa.png ;]

but seriously, why use so crippled device. why remove keyboard from laptop instead of adding tablet to a laptop? all i need is already out there: bit.ly/tthinkpadX200 yeah the price, i know. but still, imho, it's worth it.
