TOPIC: Touch gesture controls
Touch gesture controls 2 years ago #5192
|
I was reading over the iPad/Tablet PC thread and now am curious as to whether there are plans to implement touch gestures/tapping in ComicRack to turn pages while reading? This year is going to be a big year for tablets, I think, and it would be great to see these features in ComicRack. Thanks for considering my suggestion.

There's already simply page forward/backward tapping implemented (simply tap in the upper left/right corner of the comic display).
For writing more advanced stuff I would need a multi touch capable tablet, and these do not fall out of the sky |

Ah, Ok... cool. I didn't realize those controls were already there. Thanks, Cyo.
I'm currently looking at an Asus touchscreen with multitouch. It's kinda small but it's pretty affordable. If I get it I will let you know how it works with ComicRack. |

I noticed that the latest version of ComicRack has "gestures" listed as a possibility when editing the keyboard map.
Is this an active feature that we can use right now? If so, how do we set up the gestures? I looked in the Wiki but couldn't find anything about this yet. Thanks. |

Gestures are a feature I plan to extend in the future. Currently they simply map to square areas in the reader you can click. They are numbered right left, top down.
1-2-3 4-5-6 7-8-9 So the default is, if you click (touch with touch display) in the upper corners you change page. In the lower corners you auto scroll (with page change). |

Ok... awesome! I'm going to play around with setting up some gesture commands on my tablet tonight and I will let you know how it is working out.
Thanks for adding the new feature, Cyo. |

One thing i find missing from the touch controls, is some kind of "inertia" when scrolling on pages with the fingers. This would avoid repeatedly clicking and draging, which can sometimes lead to misclicks.

Yeah, the touch scrolling/panning is the main thing holding ComicRack back from being a great reader on the touch screen. In its current form, there is no fluid touch-and-drag scrolling and the mouse pointer shows while you are dragging. Ideally, the screen would scroll with your touch, like an iPhone, or something like that, and the mouse pointer would be hidden while you drag. I'm not sure that Cyo can add these features though, as he has said he doesn't have a touch screen device to test it on. |

Are they still the same as in the quoted post (3 months old) or do we have more functionalities now ? |
