ComicRack is now extremely feature-rich, but the design and looks are still, well, quite basic. The web browsers, Firefox & Opera have undergone a number of changes in the recent past & now look more beautiful than ever. Much inspired from them, I have a few suggestions that, if possible to be implemented, will give ComicRack a much-needed makeover !
2. Free the reader toolbar While writing for the ComicRack manual, I repeatedly felt that the design of the Reader toolbar may be improved. The reader tab bar "continues" into the Reader toolbar. In my opinion, the last 2 buttons (fullscreen & tools) should be moved up beside the main menu items. Rest of the buttons should constitute the Reader tab bar, and should be given a bar of their own, so that opening 2 or more tabs cramps neither the reader tab bar nor the reader tool bar. To achieve this, the Open ecomic tabs may be placed at the bottom. 3. Visual tabs & Speed dial Two features that I don't know are possible at all, but still.. Visual tabs: drag down any tab on the reader tab bar and get a peek of the open eComic Speed dial: quidam suggested the excellent speed dial feature, but as no response was there, I felt that it may not be possible. Still, the empty "no book is open" is quite depressing. A waste of a lot of space that has a great potential. Something should be in there. A speed dial, a search box, preferences, a running web browser.. I don't know. But, something has to go in there and make it complete. 4.ComicRack recycle bin A ComicRack recycle bin on the main menu bar. Apart from deleted files, may this also show recent files? (link to the recent files option in the file menu) 5. Bookmarks menu ("Real" bookmarks) Why..oh why do we not have a simple bookmarks menu ? Suppose I read a few comics and leave them halfway, and I get 5-6 such comics pending. How do I quickly find them.. by the bookmarks menu , right ? Hell, comix has one (and it does not have 1/10 th the features we have ) 6. Scroll the reader by moving mouse to the very edge of the screen Again, don't know if this is implementable. In most video games (like civilization), the mouse pointer moves the screen when we push it at the edge of the screen. This feature in ComicRack would be handy in navigating double-page spreads, and reading comics in tablets. 7. Round-cornered tabs ComicRack tabs would look good if they had rounded corners, instead of the hard ones we have now.. I guess that is enough requesting for one day |

I wholeheartedly agree with the Bookmarks menu. That would be a welcome addition, and much more useful to me than tracking my open books with the Reading smartlist.
A neat feature for the Speed Dial would be to display a random selection of comics from your library when no comic is open. It could be a nice surprise if you're trying to decide what to read. |

1. ComicRack Menu button The ComicRack Menu button may replace the traditional main menu, so we have a single access point. Will also reduce vertical space (slightly). Also, a right-click context menu over the main menu bar may show the hide option. ![]() In Library tab, the lists and smart lists could be inside this button to, or another button. |

And may I humbly add to this list a feature to change the background color in the library and lists? There's a bit too much overall white or pale grey for my taste... If this feature does exist I'm still looking for it.
Thx! |

I think along these lines I'd like to see the possibility to change the overall theme of CR, like you can do in FireFox. I'd love a darker or higher contrast theme for the application itself, to go with the customizable backgrounds. Simple palate swaps would be enough for me.

This may be a good place to allow to add scripts in the style of the info panel. |

The speed dial thing could be coded into the info panel once it's possible to open comics from the info panel.

Yeah, something a'la SpeeDial or customizable StartPage with shortcuts to favorite smartlist, recently read commics and all things you could provide from scripts like in info panel... Would be great.
I also like 'Closed tabs' function to quickly reopen last tab, if accidentally closed. As for global Bookmarks feature. I believe that's one of those functions in ComicRack that new users find misleading because it works in CR differently from their common expectations (as they see in Web Browsers). So it would be good having global way of accessing all the bookmarks. |
